Hm, I made this prologue some time ago and decided to make a decent story out of it ^^ Enjoy =]
Team 10's Departure: Prologue Asuma looked at the three Chuunin in front of him. He was a really proud man. Every one of them had grown so much. Not only in length, but also in strength and wisdom. No longer had Asuma to be afraid for his students' lives. They were grown up to fine Shinobi. He wished Shikamaru had gained a bit more motivation over the years, but that would just break his personality. Shikamaru was Shikamaru because of his laziness. Chouji was Chouji because he ate so much. And Ino was Ino because she, well, she actually hadn't really something which would change her drastically. His heart ached faintly at the thought of this mission being one of the last they would fulfil together. He knew he had to let them go one day, but those three years went by so fast. He could still remember the first time he saw them. He thought he had gotten the worst team ever; a lazy boy, an always eating boy and an obsessed girl who only thought of the boy she liked. Things turned out different than expected and Asuma was grateful for that. "Asuma-sensei, you okay?" Asked Chouji with a small frown. Team 10 was waiting for more information on the mission, but their sensei seemed to be spacing out big time. They all wondered if something was bothering him. He normally didn't space out at all. Asuma shook his head lightly and looked his three students over. Yes, soon it would be time for them to separate. Maybe they would even surpass him. Asuma smiled softly and took the cigarette from his mouth. There was no doubt they would surpass him. Shikamaru had the stragetic mind of a Jounin, maybe an ANBU even. Chouji's ability to enlarge his body was amazing and even Ino had made a huge progress with her jutsu's. "Yes, I'm fine; let me tell you what we're supposed to do." Asuma blew some smoke before continuing. "We're heading towards Suna to give this special scroll to its Kazekage." The bearded man said. Ino whined a little whilst Shikamaru sighed. "Why do we have to do that? Can't they send Team 13 since they are much faster than us?" Shikamaru said mainly referring to Gai and Lee. Asuma nodded faintly for he as well thought Gai's team would be better of with this mission. "Well, the Hokage signed them to another mission yesterday before this one was requested. Since this scroll contains highly important information, it has to be delivered with extreme care." Asuma tried to explain. Shikamaru raised one of his eyebrows and Chouji's stomach growled. "Why not use ANBU then?" The Nara boy asked his sensei. Asuma sighed and decided to drop the matter and explain the mission further. "We need to deliver this as soon as possible. This means we will only stop at night to have some sleep. I will keep it with me, but you three must as well be alert and cautious, understood?" The three Chuunin nodded in time as if planned. Asuma smiled proudly and turned while mentioning his team to follow. He looked up at the clouded sky. He chuckled as he thought of Shikamaru who would miss the chance to watch the clouds today. There was more to life than clouds though and all of them knew so. As Asuma surpassed the gate, he left with not his students, but his comrades. And so Team 10's mission to Suna began.

Right, so here's the actual first chap =]
Just to tell you guys, my stories never really followed the original story-lines of the anime/manga ^^ It's AU all the way =] Team 10’s Departure: The Journey part 1 Team 10 maybe wasn't as quick as Team 13, but still they travelled with a steady pace. Like Asuma had said, there had not been one single break yet. None of the Shinobi were complaining though a small break couldn't hurt either of them. Shikamaru yawned and scratched an itch on his stomach. There had not been any attempt to take the scroll from them ever since they left Konoha. The Nara boy looked up at the clouds for the first time since they left. Which was about, let's see, almost six hours ago. Travelling to Suna was a three day journey. If they continued the pace and wouldn’t be interrupted, they would arrive just on schedule. The team was silent except for Chouji’s munching. Shikamaru was the one to lead, followed directly by Asuma. Since Asuma was holding the scroll, he travelled between Chouji and Ino just in case enemies would try to pry it away. He noticed his body felt more relaxed than on previous missions. The explanation was obvious. His students, no, comrades, we’re travelling beside him. There was no such thing left as worry for his small and fragile students. They had proven to be worthy of their Chuunin rank. With a little bit motivation, Shikamaru would have the ability to become a Jounin like Asuma, but the lazy bum wouldn’t participate to become one anyway. There was no point in forcing him to if he didn’t want it. Still he had grown to a more responsible Shinobi. Sure, there were times Shikamaru rather wanted to sneak off to watch the clouds than to go on a mission, but as the years past he understood the impotency of his existence. Being a Konoha Shinobi wasn’t to show the world your abilities and strength, but to protect and help those in need. Asuma reached up to his Jounin vest were the scroll was kept safe. It was still there. So far still no attempts of enemies to steal it. The bearded man frowned and thought of Tsunade’s words. Asuma knocked on the wooden door, throwing the butt of his cigarette in the pot of the plant standing beside him. He went in when he heard the sound of approval. Tsunade’s desk was filled with papers and files. Tonton was busy to find anything edible amongst the piles of work. Asuma restrained himself from laughing as Tsunade lifted her head from her desk, a piece of paper stuck to her head. She quickly removed it and gave the Jounin in front of her a warning look. “As busy as ever, I see.” Asuma commented and crossed his arms over his broad chest. “Don’t even get me started.” Tsunade replied with a tired look. She pushed a few files off her desk, startling Tonton as they fell on her head. Tsunade didn’t bother to apologise and kept searching. Tonton knew better than to stay put and quickly ran to Asuma’s side. She sniffed him and smelled the BBQ smell still lingering on his clothes. Asuma had been treating his team for a monthly BBQ diner just moments before he got the message saying the Hokage wanted to see him. He gave enough money, or so he hoped, and left his team for the urgent call. Here he stood waiting. Finally Tsunade found what she was looking for. She grinned and placed an ordinary scroll in the middle of her desk. Her desk was clean, the ground was not, however that was beside the point. “This, is what you will be guarding on your next mission.” She said and leaned back in her chair. Asuma stepped forward with a curious look and took the object from the wooden furniture. “What does it contain?” He just had to ask it. The Hokage shook her head and placed a finger on her lips. “I’m not allowed to tell you.” She said, excitement glistering in her shining eyes. This slightly unnerved Asuma. Were it important than Tsunade wouldn’t have that look in her eyes that said ‘I-know-something-you-don’t-know-and-it’s-hilarious!’. His unnerved look changed as did Tsunade’s look. With a stern face she ordered him to gather his team and bring the scroll to Suna’s Kazekage immediately. Though surprised, Asuma nodded and needed no further explanations. This wasn’t the first time he was sent on a guarding mission. Human or object, it had to be protected no matter what. Even though Tsunade seemed to be hiding something, she appointed his whole team to the mission of guarding it. The scroll had to contain something valuable at the least. As if reading his thoughts, the always chatty Ino turned her head and spoke. “Sensei, what does that scroll contain anyway?” She asked with a unpleasant look on her face. Her look said she rather went home and wash the BBQ smell, which still lingered on her faintly, off her with a warm bath. Maybe she would have gone over to her parents and see if she could help them afterwards, but no. Ino wasn’t all too happy about the appointed mission. Asuma mentioned for her to focus back to the surroundings before replying. “First of all, I don’t want either of you to call me Sensei any longer. Second, Tsunade didn’t tell me what it contained.” His voice betrayed his curiosity. They all knew it was forbidden to open the scroll and take a look, so they dropped the matter and continued till Shikamaru stopped. The pineapple haired male looked up at the sky and noted it was starting to get darker. It was far from night, so that meant a storm was coming their way. Ino let out a irritated sigh. “I’m not going further through a storm yet! Chances are high we will encounter a sand storm when we cross the border into Suna anyway. I’m not going to travel through two storms.” Her mind was set. Chouji nodded in agreement, emptying his bag of chips afterwards. Asuma thought the situation over. He was still the leader of the group on this mission, but if his comrades didn’t want to go any further for the moment, it would be best to stop to look for shelter. “What do you think Shikamaru?” The bearded Jounin decided to ask. Shikamaru pocketed his hands and looked up at the dark clouds. “Those clouds don’t look very promising.” And so the decision was made. The team continued travelling only this time in search of a place they could take shelter. They past a river with a waterfall and Chouji suggested they could take shelter behind the waterfall if there was an inlet. Asuma nodded and ordered the others to go to the waterfall. It had already started to rain and the wind was getting stronger by the minute. The shelter would have to do no matter the size. Little did they know their urge of finding a shelter had weakened their caution. Something was luring at them from within the water ahead.
